I used a 'Rhyme' Tower Shield until, at level 82, I finally found a Monarch while killing Pindle (thanks again for that advice, Johnnymc). Near the end I felt like half the game was slogging through tedious boss packs, and the other half was tp'ing back to town to either rez the merc or (if I was quick enough) talk to the healer to get rid of amplify damage or a nasty poison, or just heal him up without having to blow through so many potions. The mercenary is a holy freeze desert merc wearing Tal Rasha's Crest (I've found 3 or 4 of those, but no other Tal pieces), an ethereal Rattlecage, and an 'Insight' Cryptic Axe (didn't find the 4os cryptic axe until Act V Hell-he was using an 'Insight' Partizan before that). Shield: 'Spirit' Monarch (rolled with 32% FCR and +100 mana) Weapon: 'Spirit' Broadsword (rolled with 29% FCR and +89 (lowest possible!) mana) Rings: Dwarf Star and a magic ring with +14 resists and -25% poison lengthĪmulet: Rare amulet with +44 life, +17 resists and +33 poison resist. Stats: Str 156, dex 75, everything else in vit.ĭamage according to LCS (prepare to be underwhelmed): If she levels further, I'll be splitting the points between FM and CM. After a few breaks to level some other characters a bit, however, I kept coming back to Erana and managed to grind her through the rest of the game.Īnyway, her build (not including prereqs):ġpt in warmth, static, teleport, telekinesis, and shiver armor. There were many times when I was tempted to just give up on getting her further through Hell until I could find some better gear. She's my first character to finish the game, and due to some aspects of my build (details below) and the fact that she was stuck with suboptimal gear in several slots, many parts of the game in Hell were very difficult for her. My first Matriarch: Erana the BlizzballerĪfter blowing through millions resurrecting my merc, I finally finished Hell with my Blizzballer, Erana (kudos to anyone who knows where the name is from).
